Armour of God - Eph 6:11

In the KJV it is written: 

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

I looked up the meaning of "wiles", as a lot of the old English in the KJV confuses me. I assumed it meant deception. But, the definition I got of this word is much more in-depth:

wile |wīl|noun ( wiles)devious or cunning stratagems employed in manipulating or persuading someone to do what one wants.
What a powerful definition. The devil most certainly has many strategems he uses to manipulate us! 
Hold fast to the Word of God, and His word only. Take care to research the books you are reading, the sermons you listen to, the articles you read... are they in full compliance with the Word of God?

The "Modern" Christian - Translations and Teachers (Part 1)

Translations, Teachers, Incorrect Doctrine, Misconceptions, Misinterpretations.... There are so many factors that contribute to the state of today's modern Christian. Please note that these factors are almost limitless.

There is one Gospel, and one Gospel only.

It is interesting to note that some people have a very wrong view of the Gospel. What makes this interesting is that most of the time, their version of the Gospel is what touches so many people - and these people end up following the wrong Gospel, or, a tainted version of the Gospel, if you will.

My idea of extreme Christianity is someone who is on fire for Jesus, someone who is obedient to God's word in full, and strives for a complete, as accurate as possible knowledge of the Bible. Because in this world, following the Bible to the "T" is what people would normally consider extreme.

Over the course of the last millenniums, believers have been lead into many directions on how to live their lives. People rely on Biblical teachers to help them along their walk with God, which is okay - to a point. Biblical teachers over the course of time have modernized their teachings, and have in the process taught other Christians, Bible students and the like their new teachings. These people who rely solely on the teachers to get their doctrinal foundation are getting "spoon fed" the Gospel message. Unfortunately, the majority of these people do not read the scriptures for themselves to get a clear untainted message, straight from the source.

As the English language progressed into what it is today, the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible has become harder to understand, causing new translations to be published. Versions like the New International Version (NIV), New King James Version (NKJV), so on and so forth. The original English version, the KJV, is rarely referred to by both believers and teachers when reading their new translations, so confusion, misunderstanding, and misinterpretation of the scriptures are very evident.

If you take a moment to take in the image of the "modern Christian" in it's entirety, you see a group of people who are essentially lost. Just like Atheists and Agnostics, only arguably worse. These people are supposed to be the salt and the light to the people who do not know Christ. But, because of all the different denominations, "traditions", beliefs, arguments, "doctrinal differences", practices, etc., Christianity now looks like a big joke, to both believers and unbelievers.

The new translations of the Bible are not only to blame. It is the teachers, the believers, the ones who want to do things their own way, the ones who do not like what the Bible has to say - the list can go on for days!

I will not go into specific issues, but I do want to just convey something to you before you go to your next Church service, or listen to your favourite Bible teacher on the radio. Ask yourself these questions: Is the doctrine the pastor is teaching correct and true to God's word? Are the teachings partially or fully opinionated, or corrupted by "modernized" interpretations? 

I challenge you to do your own self lead Bible study. Have the KJV open, and perhaps the NKJV open beside it to help you with the old English, if you have trouble reading it. Read God's word with an open heart and obedient spirit. Pray before you start. Do your extra studying to gain understanding by reading Bible commentaries (biblecc.org), and spend a few days reading the same verses (in context).

Dare to take in God's word fully, to the "T". Be an extremist, not a "modern" Christian.

Christmas Eve !

Merry Christmas Eve to all!

As a child, before I had accepted Christ, today was the day full of Christmas parties and eating. Perhaps we would open a present or two, and of course, we would greatly anticipate the next day - Christmas! Duh, Santa! Mostly for the food, presents, and company of close family and friends.

Now, as a born again Christian with children of my own, I am excited that today is Christmas Eve. We know that no one is absolutely sure of the day of Christ’s birth, but we commemorate it on December 25^th. I am excited because it is a wonderful time to remember our savior and what He did for us. Without His birth, we would not have a chance at eternal life. We would not have forgiveness.

I am more than delighted to teach my children about this! How much more significant it is to have the true meaning behind Christmas at the forefront of your mind, instead of the non-issue, non-important parts about Christmas. Really, who cares about the presents??? We received the greatest gift of all already 2012 years ago! And anyone can accept this gift, even today.

The Joy of Celebrating Christmas

There is such a joy when that week before Christmas day comes around. This is especially true when you are with family and friends who have the same view about Christmas as you - that it is celebrating the birth of Christ, our saviour!

My family and I are away from home now, and spending a few weeks at my husband's parents house. They are, as far as I am concerned, my parents as well (not to say that my real parents aren't :P).

It is such a breath of fresh air to come here and have our beliefs and views out in the open, not in hiding. Our way of life is not questioned, but instead, it is embraced. We are not looked down upon, or made fun of behind our backs. They are uplifting and encouraging, and are more than supportive.

When we go to my parents house, it is a challenge to be who we are. Before I accepted Christ last November, I was a completely different person. Now that I've changed and am growing into a different woman, (a woman striving to be Christ-like!) I am no longer the same person they once knew. I don't partake in the drinking, or the swearing, or the watching of bad movies, or the reading bad books, and so on. I never had to have a guard over my tongue.

Needless to say, I am now completely relaxed and am completely happy. I do get sad, however, on the drive to my parents house for a number of reasons... But that is for another post.

The joy of celebrating Christmas - and the fact that we are celebrating the TRUE meaning of Christmas, and not just the materialistic part, is what brings so much joy at this time of year. If you haven't celebrated the birth of Christ with other people at Christmas time, you don't know what kind of joy you're missing! It really is a true celebration.

It reminds me of that Christmas song, "Mary's Boy Child", my favourite version sung by Boney M.

"Hark now hear, the angels sing, the King was born today... And man will live for evermore, because of Christmas Day!"

Mid-Week Scripture - "Queen James Bible" Controversy

Think about how this applies to today. (Almost about everything, right???)

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. - Timothy 4:3-4 (KJV)

Amongst all the examples I could use, the most recent and most obvious controversial example is the new "Queen James Bible".

In case you haven't heard about this "Bible", the authors (unknown at this time) changes the verses that refer to homosexuality being a sin, into something that takes out any reference to homosexuality in the first place. The writers have completely changed certain verses, and have consequently added (and removed) from the word of God.

Here is an excerpt from the queen james bible .com editors note, just to show you how true the above verse is:

"A Fabulous Bible

The QJB is a big, fabulous Bible. It is printed and bound in the United States on thick, high-quality paper in a beautiful, readable typeface. It is the perfect Bible for ceremony, study, sermon, gift-giving, or simply to put on display in the home or Church.

You can’t choose your sexuality, but you can choose Jesus. Now you can choose a Bible, too."

Yes, pick a Bible. A heretic Bible, in this case.

Basically, people (and I'm not saying all Christians, but sadly, most) pick and choose what they want to believe out of the Bible. If this particular "picker and chooser" finds something that they don't like, they either choose not to believe it, or will twist Scripture to suit how they want it to read. (Or in this Queen James "Bible", completely change verses! Consequently, this will mislead others into believing homosexuality is not a sin.)

Take care to read the Bible with an open, obedient heart and attitude. Pray before you delve into it. If you are reading God's word with a hard heart and are not willing to take in what it says, you will surely find ways to change in your mind what is written. Forget about and change your itching ears :)

Commercialized Christmas

If you really think about it, there are not a lot of people that acknowledge the true meaning of Christmas.

So many people reject that Christ is Lord and that He came to die on the cross for our sins. Of course, He left His teachings, evidence of His miracles, and the story of His life all in the Bible. (If you do not believe this, there are plenty of resources to prove the authenticity and hard evidence of the Bible.) However, it is quite sad how many people deny the Bible, it's teachings, it's proof, the way it says to live our lives, it's authenticity. Yet, these same people celebrate Christmas - the birth of Christ.

It's baffling! True Christians acknowledge Christmas as the time to celebrate the birth of the Messiah. Non-believers or wishy-washy Christians view this time as gift-giving and getting together, just for the sake of it.

Christmas has turned into this gong show of buying gifts (not just a nice gesture gift - but actual materialistic things that puts people into debt...) for grandparents, parents, friends, teachers, neighbors, distant relatives, kids, friends of friends, acquaintances, basically everyone. And for what purpose? Of course, I am not discrediting the fact that being generous is a great thing, especially during the Christmas season. But, I just don't understand what Christmas has become, and why it's headed in the direction it has. This once Christian celebration has turned into a seemingly secular joke, and it's saddening.

Is it that Christmas to people is the time of year that families get together, share a day to eat, drink, give and open gifts, and then go home? That's it? Why? Why this day? Why dismember the true meaning behind this day? Why disregard it?

Christmas has become commercialized beyond repair - at least, it seems this way. The main theme of Christmas is gifts, presents, and just having an excuse to spend money. (And Santa for the kiddies...) I would love to go out in the mall and randomly ask people why they buy gifts at Christmas time - what the true meaning behind getting and giving gifts at Christmas is about. And then ask Santa sitting on his "throne" (snicker...) why he does what he does at Christmas time, and what good it does for the kids.

Don't be fooled into buying gifts at Christmas time. Sure, we give gifts because gifts were given at Jesus' birth. But, no one says we have to go out and buy a big, flat screen TV for an acquaintance. (That's extreme...) Give gifts for the right reasons, not because you "have" to. Give gifts in order to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and the fact that He came (and is coming again). No one says you have to break the bank either!  The big box stores would have you believe you need to go into debt for Christmas time... Greed has overtaken this world, and don't be fooled into thinking otherwise.

Stores start setting up for Christmas time well in advance, even before Halloween. Sometimes, even before summer is over! Christmas decorations, chocolates, themed gifts, wrapping paper, the works. It's extreme. It's to get your money. It's to empty your pockets. It's to distract you from the real meaning of Christmas. And it's working.

Satan is the ruler of this world. The Living God, who has given us freewill, sits back and watches as we foolishly fall into Satan's trap. He wants you to believe that there is no Christ, no God, and that the Bible is not true and that worldly pleasures (most of it sin) are the only things that matter. Secular behaviours amongst the people of today are rampant, and are embedded into future generations. And without the "ON FIRE CHRISTIANS", there will be no stop to the madness.

I am a woman, and I am trying to do my part in getting some of these truths out. Please note that I am not teaching anything from the Bible, but am trying to make the reader aware of the things that are happening in this world, namely in this post: commercialization of the Christmas season.

Commercialization of Christmas is getting worse and worse.

Remember when you go to the store to buy a gift for your child, or for someone close to you. Think about why you're buying them a gift. Buy the gift according to what you think is reasonable and right. No one says you have to buy more than one gift, and then empty your pockets in order to do so. Just because your friend decides to give you a $100 Lululemon gift card, does not mean you have to give back that same amount in some other form of gift card or gift. It's pure silliness.

This year, I took it upon myself to only give gifts to those closest to me: my close relatives and a few close friends. I didn't spend too much money. I decided to make mason jar gifts, (COOKIE RECIPES!) and put together gift bags for each family. For friends and extended family, I sent Christ-themed Christmas cards to let them know I was thinking of them this Christmas. I expect no gifts, and if I get a gift, I will feel no obligation to give one back just because I got one from them. Of course, a thank-you will be in order :)

Try not to go into debt, or spend too much money this Christmas. Buy for the right reasons. It is not even a real obligation to have to go out and buy any gifts at all. Let's not contribute into making Christmas into a commercialized holiday. This day is only about Christ, and should not line or empty the pockets of anyone - but should totally glorify Christ instead.

Christmas Music - What Happened?

Christmas music can be about anything that has to do with Christmas. At least, the real true meaning of Christmas. (Jesus!)

It's interesting though. The center of focus for most Christmas music before the 1900's was on Christ and His birth.

For example, the most beloved Christmas songs, such as:

Silent Night - 1818
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing - written 1739
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - written in 1700's
Away in a Manger - 1885
Joy to the World - written in early 1700's
We Three Kings of Orient Are - mid 1800's
The First Noel - Mid 1800's

Look at the Christmas music today, written and composed after the 1900's:

Frosty the Snowman - 1950's
Jingle Bell Rock - 1950's
The Little Drummer Boy - 1950's
Santa Clause is Coming to Town - 1930's
Winter Wonderland - 1930's
White Christmas - 1940's
Silver Bells - 1950's
Let it Snow - 1940's

It is quite interesting to note, as I look over these carols and songs, that the majority of the Christ-centered ones were composed before the 20th century.

True Christians know the real meaning behind Christmas, and know that we live in a very lost world where the belief in Christ is scarce. The more generations that are born unto Atheists and the like - just non-believers - it seems that the Christmas music that gets composed has absolutely nothing to do with Christ's birth.

Take a look at the songs written closer to the present day:

A Holly Jolly Christmas - 1965

As I do my research, I have discovered that the majority of Christmas songs are re-writes of old ones... Slowly but surely, the focus is on Santa songs, presents, rudolph and the like. It's very saddening.

It's fine to have Christmas songs that depict other things about Christmas time, like the snow on the ground, the feeling of joy around Christmas - even the gifts you give and receive. But the main focus should truly stay on Christ.

The Candy Cane

The Candy Cane, a red-and-white striped, hook shaped Christmas candy favourite. And it is a most proper selection for a classic, symbolic Christmas treat.

In the mid 1600's, the Candy Cane was invented for the purpose of keeping little ones occupied and quiet during Christmas Eve festivities at church.

The peppermint stick, originally white, had a hook at the top which symbolized the staff of a shepherd. It's white colour represented the purity of Christ. What a wonderful comparison! Take a moment to remember and really think about our Christ, and just how pure He is, in every way.

Later in time, probably in the late 1800's, the red stripes were added to symbolize the blood that Christ spilt in payment of our sins - a debt we cannot pay on our own, no matter how hard we try.

The next time you eat, decorate with, buy, or give away a candy cane, just remember what it symbolizes. Even the families who do not acknowledge Christ as their saviour or Lord, they are buying, eating, and treating their kids this very Christian, symbolic Christmas treat. 

If you notice this, let them know what the true meaning behind the Candy Cane is. Spread the word. It's one of the many things during this time of year that may actually bring forth the true meaning of Christmas. 

And true Christians, of course, know what this is.

So! Enjoy a Candy Cane for yourself and savour it - and the very thing it symbolizes.

Keeping Christ in Christmas (For Children and Family)

There are many things you can do to keep Christ in Christmas with your family!

- I downloaded the Beginners Bible App on my iPad. My two year old loves it! It's so interactive and he actually learns about the book of Genesis. I'm sure that the app developers will add more books from the Bible - but don't quote me on that. Anyhow, especially during the Christmas season, this is a spectacular way to get your child to gain some Biblical knowledge.

- There are many different books you can buy on ChristianBooks.com that relate to and explain the Christmas story. I happen to be a big fan of the Beginners Bible, so I ended up buying their book about Christmas for kids. It was only $1.99 (but be careful, make sure you get all the things you need from that site in one shipment, because it costs a lot to ship to Canada!) and it tells the story so beautifully with lots of colours and recognizable characters throughout the pages. (Just a side note, all their books have the same looking characters, so it's easy for the child to associate, for example, Jesus from one book to the next.)

- Avoid secular Christmas movies and shows. The more kids see about Santa, elves, reindeer, and presents, the less they will be interested in Jesus and his birthday. Their curiosity will be piqued about the distraction of Christmas: Santa. If possible, steer clear of anything Santa related with your child! Santa takes over Jesus' role at Christmas time in the mind of a child (if you look at my other posts, you can read more in depth about it). Perhaps try some Veggie Tales Christmas stories and episodes, maybe some Adventure in Odyssey CD's to listen to.

- Sing Christmas songs. Silent Night, Away in a Manger, God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, things like that. Any song to keep the focus directly on Christ is best. Of course, there's no harm in singing a little Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls, but keep the majority of the songs you sing together centered on Christ.

- Give gifts to each other, and then give a gift to Jesus. Either bake something special, do a craft, but do something special just for Christ. This will be in celebration of his birth, and doing something like will put emphasis on the celebration part of Christmas.

- Instead of just setting up a Christmas tree, doing up Christmas lights, why not put up a Nativity scene? Take time to find one that you like. Perhaps you and your child(ren) can take a few minutes to find a special spot in the house to set it up. Have it the focal point of your house. Put it in front of your window for the passerby's to see. The kids will love it!

- Tell others about Christmas and the true meaning behind it. Perhaps you and your kids can volunteer at a food drive, volunteer as gift wrappers, host a neighbourhood get together for Christmas, or think of some other way that you can be in contact with other people to get the Christmas message across. Talk about Christmas, and be proud to convey to others that it is about Jesus' birth. It's a great way for you and your children to get involved in not only focusing on Christ, but on spreading the good news as well.

These are only but a few ways to keep Christmas focused on Christ instead of secular holiday traditions. Be creative! Try to think of your own ways to have your kids focus their attention on Christ during Christmas.

Keeping Santa Out of Christmas

It was one of my most fondest memories as a child: waking up on Christmas morning to a bountiful display of presents under our beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Gift wrapping paper of all kinds. Santa had done it again! He came to our house while we were sleeping, and rewarded us with presents for our many good deeds we'd done over the past year! How exciting!

I didn't know how he did it. Somehow, as if by some sort of magic, he knew when we were sleeping, and he knew when we were awake. Gosh darn it, we'd better behave, or we'd get coal instead of gifts! And somehow, he managed to visit all the little kids, all around the world in just one night. As a child, when your parents tell you that something is true, you just believe them. You have total trust in what they tell you.

My grandparents and my mother are Catholics. They had said that Christmas was about Jesus a few times, but didn't really push it on me that it was the be-all, end-all, most important thing about Christmas. (Now I know it is.) I knew that it was when he was born, but when I was little, I didn't understand the true importance of Him. It was about the presents and Santa!

There are a lot of children today who do not even know who Jesus is. More and more Atheists and Agnostics are infiltrating the world we live in, and at a huge cost. They are not just harming Christmas, but almost every other aspect of the lives we live. That being said, Christmas is now so commercialized in the western world, it's becoming harder and harder to keep it about the one true thing it's meant for: Jesus Christ.

Kids these days. All they believe in is Santa, and that Santa is coming to bring them presents! Nothing else. Just Santa.

Recently, I asked a four-year-old child what Christmas was all about. It shouldn't have surprised me, but he replied, "Santa is coming to bring presents!" I asked him, "Well, what about Jesus?" And he looked at me cluelessly. "Huh?" And he was from a "Christian" family.

It may not have been my place, but I did tell him why people get presents at Christmas. "Because people brought presents to Jesus when he was born," I simplified for him. "So we give each other gifts because it's His birthday."

After pondering this new idea of Christmas for a few minutes, it clicked in his little mind, "It's Jesus' birthday!" 

Of course, my husband and I confirmed with his parents afterwards that what we taught was okay, and they were fine with it. But the fact remains that Christmas is no longer about Christ, and this is sad.

I will get into another post later about what parents, older children, older people (and the like) think Christmas is about. For now, though, I want to keep this post solely about how harmful Santa is to teach to children.

Children are easily influenced, and will believe anything. It is one of the greatest things about children - they are amazing! It is also one of the reasons why God loves children so much. It is written, "And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein." (Luke 18:15-17 KJV)

So, if we are teaching children at a young age about Christmas being about presents and Santa, what interest will they have to keep that special day about our saviour? What interest will they have to celebrate the one true thing that Christmas is actually about?

My husband and I had a long discussion about this. At first, I was against the idea of not having Santa as a part of our family tradition. I grew up with Santa, and I liked putting out milk and cookies out on Christmas Eve, and having those excited and impatient feelings for Santa to come.

Hubby did a good job in explaining exactly what I needed to know. What everyone needs to know.

He explained exactly what Santa was, in simple terms.

- Santa is omnipresent - just like God.
- Santa has elves for helpers - Jesus has angels for helpers.
- Santa is omnipotent - just like God.
- Santa is omniscient - just like God.

It clicked in my head then. Santa really is a Satanic distraction from what Christmas is all about. Santa, in a child's mind, completely seizes the role of Jesus.

And I am not being extreme. My mother's voice rung in my head as I wrote that last sentence. That's for another post... Anyhow, really take a few minutes to think about Santa, and what his purpose is. Why is he even a part of Christmas? Where did he come from? (There's a whole history on that...)Why is his presence even needed at Christmas time? Interesting that it's embedded into a child's head, almost as if when the child grew up, there would be no importance of Christ on Christmas. Hence, another generation of either Atheists, Agnostics, or wishy-washy Liberal Christians. Not to say that this is the cause of these belief systems, however, it certainly does contribute.

If you are a Christian mother, I urge you to look and research the evidence that pertains to the correlation between Satan and Santa. Satan is excellent at spreading lies and doubt - and Santa, I can assure you, is one of his lies.

I look at my wee ones, and am thankful that my husband brought this important issue to my attention. Here I was, going to teach to my precious innocent ones that Santa was going to bring them presents on Christmas Eve. I would have been responsible for having my children's focus on Santa instead of Jesus. Instead of the truth. Instead of the only thing that matters.

Keep Santa out of Christmas...

Hopefully I've planted a seed of "questioning" about Santa. I do plan on posting a few more posts about this issue, including Saint Nicholas' history, correlation between Satan and Santa, how the teachings of Santa brings forth a covetous spirit, amongst other things. So please, 'stay tuned' :)

Born Again

Before I was born again, I had a very different lifestyle.

The family from which I come is, by my standards, quite secular. I'm sure by God's standards, though I don't know their hearts so I cannot judge, they are considered lost.

My entire life until November of 2011 has had no standard. No solid moral code. I did whatever I wanted, I had no one to answer to, and I had no shame in doing shameful, sinful things. At least, at the time, I didn't know what I was doing was sinful. My conscience was not sharp, although when it was, I didn't have the mind to listen to it.

Now that I'm saved and am aware of God's word, I have a standard to live by. I have a good moral code. I listen to my conscience. I now know how to conduct myself in a respectful manner.

I just wanted to take this time to thank the Lord for all He's done in my life, and is still doing. He's enabled me to leave my career and stay home with my kids to raise them and homeschool them. To stay home and take care of all matters within the home. Anything I've done that is good, I want to give the glory to Him, because He's the reason why I have what I have today.

I am thankful to be born again. Thank you, Lord. Thank you husband for bringing me to the Lord. These have been the happiest days of my life.

I hope my words can bring others to the happiness I've found in Christ.
